Along the sea: Praia de Carcavelos, Praia da Torre, Praia de Santo-Amaro

by admin

You have 3 beaches in the neighbourhood:

Praia de Carcavelos

This is the largest beach of between Lisbon and Cascais, waves are big enough to ensure surf. You have 4 surf schools offering lessons in packages. You can also walk along the sea and the pier. You have also a lot of bars and restaurants from many types. Passarinha is the most known but is rather expensive, we like very much the Tricana da barra with its nice view and friendly staff.

Praia da Torre

This is the nearest beach to the apartment (800), protected by the Forte and the Marina, waves are usually not very large which makes it a nice beach to stay with children.

Praia de Santo-Amaro

The praia de Santo Amaro has also quiet waters and is therefore suited for families with small children. One of disadvantage of this beach is the proximity of the road but you can sit away from it as the beach is rather big.

LISBON

You are at 20 minutes by train from Lisbon and the city has much to offer. We cannot describe in this guide all we like about it.

  • Caís do Sodré
  • LX Factory
  • Bélem
  • Baixa Chiado Alfama

To find nice restaurants, shows, concerts, etc. you can buy the Time-Out magazine.  Some editions are in English. We have some of them in the apartment.

You can also use the Zomato app. Among our favourites:

  • Bairro do Avilez (Chiado), bistro from one of the most famous chefs from Portugal.
  • Rio Maravilha (LX Factory) offering one of the best views to the Cristo-Rei, the 12th April bridge and the Tagus.
  • Mercado da Ribeira (Caís do Sodré), the largest market of Lisbon bought by Time Out offering dozens of slamm food shops. It is usually very crowded, so do not expect to be eating rapidly.
  • Chapitô (Alfama), restaurant located in a circus school. Ask for a table with a view to the Tagus.

You can also have some cheap food in one of the many tascas in Bairro Alto but also going far from the touristic places. One of our favourite is Tico Tico, located in a popular neighbourhood away from the old centre
