Cascais & Sintra

by admin

Cascais is at the end of the coast and is known for its luxurious villas. You can go there either by train or if you have a car following the marginal. The city if very nice and you can rent a bike (known as BiCas) for a very low price (less than 5 € for a full day). Using a bike you can ride along the ocean from the Boca do inferno up to the surfer’s beach Guincho.

Sintra

Preferably if you have a car, we recommend you visit Sintra, with is 2 castles. The Castelo do Mauros (Maure’s Castle) is the oldest castle in Sintra and is above the city not far from the Dysney-alike Castelo da Pena, which was the latest residence of the last king of Portugal.

Between the centre of the city and the castles a number of villa’s can be visited, 2 of them are worth the visit. Quinta da Regaleira with its mysterious and original architecture and Quinta de Monserrate offering a wonderful garden full of tropical trees and the Arabic style villa.

You also need to try the famous queijadas de Sintra and we recommend you to try and buy them at Verdadeiras Fabrica das Queijadas de Sapa just before the entrance in the old city. The old city centre is also worth the visit.

Cabo da Roca

Cabo da Roca is the most western point of the European continent. The view is splendid but we recommend you to be well dressed because of the wind.
